Let me let my colleague know, Representative Tlaib, that the United States is not at war in Lebanon. The United States is not engaged in hostilities in Lebanon. I don't know how else I can say it. This resolution, it is reckless, and it is unserious.
When I heard about this resolution being filed, I obviously had a great deal of interest, a War Powers Resolution related to Lebanon. So I said what we should do--I am not going to impugn the integrity of any Member of Congress.
I wasn't planning on speaking on this issue, but as I have listened to this anti-Israel screed, I have to ask why my colleagues across the aisle don't pay nearly as much attention to the ongoing slaughter in South Sudan?
I oppose violent attacks against people of Lebanon, civilians of Lebanon, against civilians in Israel, against civilians in Gaza. I mean, I detest violence. We all should. We should be leading efforts for peace, not contributing to war and civil unrest.
I rise today with a heavy heart to support this War Powers Resolution to stop the U.S. Government from being complicit in a war in Lebanon that is devastating the Lebanese people. Millions of innocent civilians in Lebanon and across the region have been trapped by brutal violence and displacement.
In the Massachusetts Seventh Congressional District, I hear from Ukrainians about the necessity of American support to put an end to Putin's attacks. This bill will advance strategic assistance to save lives and negotiate a diplomatic solution to end this war once and for all.
