Should the Senate provide for the conservation of giant sequoia trees (Sequoiadendron giganteum) in California?
Save Our Sequoias Act (S. 4103)
Giant sequoias in California would get new conservation programs, wildfire, insect and drought protection plans, and a coalition that tracks their health and shares the data online.
- Gives legal authority to the Giant Sequoia Lands Coalition, which must update a health assessment each year
- Requires the coalition to run a website with grove information and a reforestation tracking database
- Declares an emergency on certain public lands for 7 years so protection plans can respond to wildfires, insects and drought
