Should the Senate have federal agencies develop a chemical test to identify the country of origin of seafood?
Illegal Red Snapper and Tuna Enforcement Act (S. 283)
Federal agencies would develop a chemical test to tell which country seafood came from, to help enforce rules against illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.
- NOAA and NIST would develop the method together, and it must include a portable field kit
- Pilot studies would test the method on red snapper and tuna
- NIST must report to Congress within two years on the method and a plan to put it to use
